MELINDA is the union catalogue of Finnish libraries. It contains references to books, journals, series, research reports, theses, dissertations and other materials available in Finnish university libraries, the Library of Parliament, the Repository Library and the Library of Statistics.

Items in other libraries can be ordered as interlibrary loans, but there is a service charge.

Advanced Search

When you are searching for literature on a research topic, you often have to use more than one search term to get satisfactory results. Advanced search allows you to combine several search terms easily and to limit the search to different fields.

Example:
You want to find books on ’
social work and immigrants’.

  • In the top search field, enter social work. At the end of the field, select Yes (Words adjacent?) to ensure these words appear together.
  • On the next line, enter two alternatives: disabl? OR handicap? . Truncate both words to get records with plurals. Write OR between words to define their relationship.
  • On the left, limit the search to All Fields. This means that the search terms may appear in the title, the subject terms etc. Note that not all records in Melinda have English subject terms.
  • You can limit your search to get for example only publications whose  language  is English
  • If you want, you can also limit the publication date either to a particular year, to after or before a year, or to a date range.
  • Click Go
  • Click then Total number of docs (21) to view records.

Search Results

  • If you click the title of a record in the result list, you get the Full View of Record.

  • The Full View display above shows complete bibliographic information on the item as well as subject terms describing the contents. For edited works, there may also be a list of contents.
  • It contains also a list of libraries which own this item. Click the name of the library to get an availability information of item. Use interlibrary loan service to order items from other libraries.
  • Click Titles to return to the results page.
