The Faculty of Tourism and Business at the University of Lapland invites applications for a fixed-term tenure position of Professor of Sustainable Tourism Business to be filled immediately or latest by the 1st of April 2010 until the end of 2013.
Located in Finnish Lapland, one of the most successful tourism destinations in the northern circumpolar region, the University of Lapland is an international, multidisciplinary institution whose areas of expertise centre on northern and Arctic issues, tourism, art and design, law, education and the social sciences. We are looking for applicants who are interested in the general area of sustainable business studies within tourism, travel, and hospitality. The academic research and teaching background of applicants may be anchored in the scientific fields of marketing, entrepreneurship, management, and accounting & finance with a focused contribution within tourism business studies.
To fulfil general competence requirements, applicants should have:
- solid academic qualifications;
- a strong performance in scientific research; and
- a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and the supervision of theses and doctoral dissertations.
In filling the post, special emphasis will be placed on the ability to work in international research projects and in joint projects with businesses, and on teaching experience.
With an office in the new Lapland Institute for Tourism Research and Education, the successful candidate will be in a unique position to develop a broad research agenda, and will play an active role in helping to take the institute forward in various fields of tourism research. Conversely, in order to augment the institute and faculty research, teaching, and service activities, the candidate is expected to be involved in cultivating an environment of excellence and collaboration.
Established by the Lapland Higher Education Consortium, the Lapland Institute for Tourism Research and Education is structurally unique, as it brings together professors, researchers, and teachers from various organisations to work in the same community; thus offering an innovative and multidisciplinary research platform and study environment. The staff of the tourism studies discipline represents a variety of disciplinary backgrounds: business and marketing, social sciences and cultural studies, forestry research and environmental planning. The profile of this new professorship post is such that innovative approaches to dealing with issues of sustainability are encouraged, thus, the professor will be in a position to recommend visiting researchers and PhD students of diverse backgrounds to the institute.
