Strategic objectives of basic degree education
The basic teaching provided by the University of Lapland will be based on high-quality, innovative and multidisciplinary research and artistic activity.
The basic degrees offered will provide extensive knowledge and skills for working life and a readiness to develop professional practices.
The planning and implementation of basic education will proceed in cooperation with students and will draw on the results of feedback systems and extensive teaching assessment projects.
Basic education will be linked to research and development projects that involve cooperation between educational institutions, enterprises, and regional actors while giving due regard to the northern operating environment.
Effective and systematic domestic and international recruiting will promote the formation of a multicultural and high-quality student and academic community.
The University’s teachers will conduct research and be pedagogically competent experts in a variety of disciplines.
Strategic Objectives of Postgraduate Education
The postgraduate education provided by the University of Lapland will be based on distinguished, innovative, and multidisciplinary research and artistic activity.
The supervision of doctoral dissertations will be evaluated as part of the University’s quality assurance system.
The postgraduate students of the University will be offered an extensive and systematic curriculum that focuses on research methods and the skills necessary for a career as a researcher.
The faculties will have their own graduate schools, which will work closely with national and international universities and research institutions.
Postgraduate studies will be linked to research and development projects.
Effective and systematic domestic and international recruiting and foreign-language postgraduate education will serve as a basis for the formation of a multicultural and distinguished student and research community.
Every fourth postgraduate student will come from abroad.
Full-time postgraduate study (the third cycle) will have clear operating principles and a sound economic basis.
Strategic Objectives of Lifelong Learning
High-quality adult education will be part of the educational mission of the University of Lapland, and will be closely connected to the institution’s research and artistic activity.
The planning of adult education will be based on the anticipation and recognition of the skills needed in working life.
Adult education will increase educational equality in sparsely populated northern regions.
The implementation and practical arrangements of the education offered will correspond to the needs of adult students.
