The Arktikum House was designed by a group of three Danish architects: Soren Birch, Ellen Waade and Claus Bonderup. The first phase of the Arktikum was opened to the public on the Finnish Independence Day, the 6th of December, 1992. The second phase called the Institute was completed in September 1997. The second phase was partially financed by the European Union.
University’s Arctic Centre is located in the Arktikum House.
