Who Can Apply - Am I Eligible?

Educational Background

An applicant, who has completed a first degree (normally a bachelor’s degree) in a relevant field of study from an institution of higher education, entitling her/him to apply for master’s degree studies in her/his home country, may apply to master’s degree studies without taking an entrance examination.

Language Requirements

The University of Lapland offers master’s degree studies for international applicants in certain degree programmes. Although some courses in these programmes are primarily taught in Finnish, it is possible to complete the programme while studying in English. Here, students can either study in the same groups as the Finnish students or individually, and their studies can be tailor-made so that they can complete all the studies in English. Because of these special study circumstances, personal study plans are made with each international student at the beginning of their studies and applicants are accepted on the basis of their previous studies and their language skills.

Therefore, a good command of the English and/or Finnish language is required to study at the master’s level. To see the complete list of approved methods and tests for demonstrating language proficiency (and the scores required), go to the  Demonstrating Language Proficiency webpage.

Masters Programmes

Before starting the application process, please consult the  Faculty-specific Admission Requirements  to have a look at the available master’s degree studies and number of study places offered for the upcoming study year.
