Rectors grants to activate research and researcher training
Rectors grants for the finalisation of University of Lapland dissertations
Grants for 1–4 months (1,100–4,400 euros)
Nonstop application time
Grants are intended to cover the costs of finalising and printing dissertations.
Receiving a grant requires a corresponding period of unpaid leave of absence for people in salaried employment.
People working in university assistant’s positions (post-graduate positions) are not eligible for a grant.
Priority will be given to dissertations that support the university’s strategic priorities and to applicants who have not previously received financial support for their dissertations.
The purpose of the grants is to support the Ministry of Education’s objectives for doctoral degrees at the University of Lapland.
Application
The freely-written application should include a description of the stage of the work on the dissertation; its topic; the anticipated period for which the grant is needed; and the dissertations estimated time of completion.
Basic personal information about the applicant will speed up payment of the grant: name, address, telephone number, email address, personal ID in full, bank account number and tax district (= information requested in Section 1 of the grant payment form). The payment form is on the Intranet under Scholarship and grant application and decision.
The application should specify whether the applicant is a full-time student or employed (the employers name and period of leave of absence).
The application should specify previously received grants for the dissertation (from where the grants were received, the amounts and for which stage of the work the grants were received).
The application must be accompanied with a signed statement by the teacher guiding the dissertation concerning the progress of the work and guaranteeing to guide the work within the planned period.
The application should be addressed to the Rector and delivered to the Rectors office.

Grant payment
A grant may be paid in monthly instalments for the period specified by the applicant. Possible payment days are the 15th day or the last day of the month. Please note the time required to process salaries.
A grant to cover the printing costs of a dissertation may be paid in one instalment against invoices approved by the teacher guiding the dissertation.
