Tools for Researchers

Research training is provided by the jointly coordinated Graduate School of the University of Lapland as well as by the faculties. Postgraduate students can also participate in national research training funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Students can apply for postgraduate studies through the faculties. The faculties are responsible for tutoring, subject-specific postgraduate seminars and discipline-specific education for postgraduate students. In addition, the Graduate School offers postgraduate students a systematic two-year module, which encompasses training in general research skills and in functioning in an expert role as well as various theoretical and methodological courses. Furthermore, the faculties and Graduate School jointly arrange events on topical research themes. Postgraduate students accepted into the faculties and into national research schools are automatically eligible for courses offered by the Graduate School of the University of Lapland.

The University of Lapland will be reorganising its research training in the near future. Teaching will have an increasingly clear focus on doctoral programmes and on the strong research areas of the faculties that support the research profiles and focus areas.
