TravEd – Research and Development of Travelling Services Through Mobile Education
TravEd is a transdisciplinary and international research project where the main objective is to develop a pedagogical model, exploiting mobile technologies and electronic learning environments, applied especially to develop travelling education and educational services in tourist centres. The pedagogical model will be tested and piloted in two tourist centres – Pyhä and Salla – in East Lapland. Along with the development of the pedagogical model the project also aims to improve the possibilities for remote working in tourist centres.
In addition, TravEd aims to promote northern Finland’s and especially East Lapland’s status in national and international travelling markets by giving local entrepreneurs knowledge of new mobile service concepts and by providing an opportunity to test these concepts with students and travellers. This also makes possible the further development of the tested mobile services and service concepts. The project promotes internationalization in the University of Lapland by including researcher exchange for 24 months with Stanford University. It is also a part of CICERO Learning network (www.cicero.fi).
