PERSONNEL EMAIL SERVICES

Contact information:
This service is supported by the ICT ServiceDesk

In brief:
Email facilitates and speeds up written communication, and it can be used whenever convenient. When you get your username, you will also get a personal email account. Organization email usage: the person in charge sends a request to the ICT ServiceDesk.

Services in detail:

Personal email

Email can be accessed with a browser (IE, Firefox) through the OWA link at the bottom of the university's main page or at https://mail1.luc.fi/owa. During the first OWA login you are asked to choose a language; this will affect the names of your email folders. Microsoft Outlook will be installed as the default email programme on personnel workstations (messages are stored into your home directory). In the email (Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Outlook Web Access) you can change the command bars, disable or enable email hints, create automatic replies, etc.

Organisation email

Organization email group addresses can be created for faculties, offices, teams, student associations, etc. You can open your own organization mailbox next to your OWA mailbox on your browser, or you can create another Microsoft Outlook account on your workstation.

Service limitations:

A username of the University of Lapland shall not be forwarded to anyone else. You can check the principles of using the university’s information systems and email at
http://www.ulapland.fi/Tietojarjestelmien-kayttosaannot

Messages on the Microsoft Exchange email server of the Lapland University Consortium can be read using a browser, the MS Outlook work station application, or a mobile device. When the number of messages reaches a certain limit, the email server sends the warning “YOUR MAILBOX IS FULL .”  Remove redundant messages and empty the Deleted Items folder. The email system accepts messages of up to 10 Mb. Should you accidentally remove valuable items, you have 14 days to restore a deleted message into the Deleted Items folder, from which it can be copied or moved to another one (…Folder / Restoring… Select Items / Restore ).
