List server’s distribution service

Contact information:
The group emailing service is supported by the ICT ServiceDesk

In brief:
The list server’s distribution lists can contain university addresses and external addresses.

Service content:
On the list server, you can create a one-way or an interactive email distribution list for a group of students, for example. A one-way distribution list is meant for reports and announcements. An interactive list is meant for exchanging emails between the members of the list. The list server’s distribution lists can also contain external addresses.
The list must have one or more owners.  The owner adds and removes addresses and moderates the discussion.
A list server’s list is controlled through email commands. A command message must be in text format (normally, messages are in HTML format).

Service limitations:
A new distribution list is requested from the ICT ServiceDesk. The requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Maintaining the list requires a person in charge. The exchange of message must comply with the rules of usage of the University of Lapland.

Instructions on the list server’s distribution lists are sent to the persons in charge after the list has been created.
