STORING SERVICES FOR STUDENTS AND PERSONNEL

In brief:
A personal storage space – the home folder – is given when the user logs into the university’s network for the first time using the fixed network.

 

Service content:
Home directory disk space for the personnel, students, u-usernames, and visitor usernames.

When necessary, the right to use the Works folder is added to the username. The Works folder may belong to a faculty, department, or a project. The personnel can use the network folder \\halla\works ja opiskelijoilla vastaavasti \\viipus\works.
The personnel can access the Home and Works folders through the WLAN network; they can use the university (luc) WLAN, and outside the university they can use any WLAN.
The Home and Works folders are backed up on tape every night.
One may store data temporarily on the workstation's C disk or a USB drive, but the user must then personally take care of backup copying (to prepare for a possible equipment failure).



Service limitations:
A student can see the Home or Works folder in the fixed network only (on lecture room workstations).
A personnel member can use the Home and Works folders by first logging into the university’s fixed network using a work laptop or tablet (not a Mac laptop).
When logging into the university’s fixed network for the first time, you must change the password. You can also log in using a laptop or tablet (not Mac) transferred to the luc.local domain.
