Welcome

The InSEA (International Society of Education through Art) European congress 2010 in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland, offers an artistically and intellectually inspiring meeting in a fascinating context. The main purpose of the InSEA Society is the encouragement and advancement of creative education through art and crafts in all countries and the promotion of international understanding. Focusing on vital present and future issues and challenges of art education, the scientific and artistic programme of the congress is designed to improve dialogue from diverse perspectives and to offer a platform for generating new visions and methods for the research and practice of art education at all levels and sectors.

The venue and the wide range of social programmes offer the ideal setting for you to experience and enjoy the unique atmosphere of Lapland and its nightless summer nights, forest and rivers. Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, is a dynamic and growing city, and it is the centre for international expertise and culture. As the home of Santa Claus, Rovaniemi captivates thousands of tourists every year; it is an attractive destination with unique polar culture that is worth seeing. The University of Lapland was founded in 1979, and it is the northernmost university within the European Union as well as a centre for Arctic Studies. The Faculty of Art and Design, providing a degree in art education, was founded in 1990. The other four faculties are: Education, Law, Social Sciences, and Tourism and Business.

The genuine InSEA spirit, combined with the authenticity of the people and culture of Lapland, is guaranteed to give the participants an unforgettable experience. It will be a pleasure to share our important and challenging work together.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I cordially invite you to the congress. May your time here be professionally and artistically stimulating and personally satisfying!
