In addition, the targets of research include economic phenomena in general, such as economic fluctuation, unemployment, and exchange rate formation. The science of economics can unfold many socially and economically significant issues of which knowledge is required in decision making and in public discourse.

Economics is a traditional social science and as such a good minor subject for all students of the social sciences who want to better understand the role of economy in society. Also many jurisprudents study economics.
