History as the second teaching subject

History as the second teaching subject qualifies you as a subject teacher in comprehensive school according to Decree 986/98. In accordance with the decision issued by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Turku on the equivalence of basic and subject studies on cultural history, the qualification can also be attained at the University of Lapland. Cultural history qualifies you to work as a teacher of history. In addition to the required subject studies, the subject teacher must have a Master's degree and completed teacher’s pedagogical studies.

The studies qualifying as a teacher of history can be taken as follows:
A. Basic and subject studies on cultural history (60 cr.) and the following evening studies: Finnish history (4 cr.), Scandinavian history (3 cr.), and general history (4 cr.) or
B. Basic studies on history and subject studies on cultural history (60 cr.) and the following evening studies: cultural history basics (6 cr.) and the presence of history and the use or history knowledge (4 cr.)
