As a subject of study, marketing examines business operations especially from the viewpoint of business relations between companies and their customers. The core functions of marketing are to analyze marketing possibilities and to create, maintain, and develop profitable customer relations. At the University of Lapland, teaching focuses on service and media marketing. However, the studies have been designed in such a way that they also provide general marketing skills.
Marketing is a good minor subject e.g. for students of tourism research, management, and the Faculty of Art and Design, but it can also be studied by those interested in the market economy and consumer-oriented communication.
