Master’s degree in Social sciences with social work as the major subject provides qualifications for positions of social work and offers qualifications to take postgraduate studies in social sciences. The qualifications are specified in the Act on Qualification Requirements for Social Welfare Professionals (272/2005). In addition the education enables the graduate to work in jobs such as in planning, administration, teaching and research which require expertise in social work.
The degree also includes practical teaching in units for social work practice teaching. Studying in these units takes place mainly during the advanced studies and they are connected to the thesis.
