All submissions are first reviewed by LUP.

If the manuscript is accepted by the Editorial board for peer review, LUP sends it out to at least two anonymous referees in the relevant field. Prior to this, LUP will change any details that might allow identification of the author.

The referees each provide a critique based on the scientific merit of the manuscript, focusing on the following: the research question(s); materials and methodology; the skill and attention to detail with which the research has been carried out; the originality and novelty of the findings; and the references used. The referees recommend that the manuscript be a) published as is, b) published after the changes noted in the critique are made or c) rejected. LUP sends the reviews to the authors/editors after removing any details that might allow identification of the referees.
