The PhD thesis by Mika Laakkonen adds new knowledge to the software product evaluation process.
The concept of learnability is critically and comprehensively analysed
base on the existing literature on learnability. The thesis argues the
lack of precision in existing definitions and the limitations of current
usability methods and "keep it simple" design principles.
How are the computer software products "learned" by users? The
theoretical model of learnability built in this study is one of the rare
theoretical models in the field of usability. The model can be well
implemented in the system development phases of industrial world. The
new attributes of learnability presented in this study can provide a
solution on how to proceed in the evaluation process of computer
software products and how to add knowledge value also to the development
phases of other products.
The theoretical and practical findings of this thesis are interesting
for national and international design management and usability research
