Bård-Jørgen Bårdsen
Researcher (PhD), Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), Tromsø, Norway.
Bård-Jørgen Bårdsen is primarily interested in understanding how individuals interact with their environment. His work has focused on how environmental conditions in combination with impacts from humans affect living organisms, with special emphasis on behavioural responses in highly seasonal environments. Bårdsen’s research within the reindeer husbandry has focused on how: 1) food availability and climatic conditions affects reindeer life histories, demography and population dynamics; and 2) climate in combination with official policies (management actions) and pastoral risk management (strategies employed the herders) affects herd size and productivity. To achieve this, Bårdsen and his colleagues have used an interdisciplinary framework that combines theory from both natural (ecology) and social sciences (anthropology), and his research consists of various empirical approaches in combination with different modelling techniques.

Annette Löf
PhD, Centre for Sami Research, Umeå University, Sweden
Annette Löf has transdisciplinary research interest with a MSc in Natural Resource Management from Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University and a PhD in Political Science from Umeå University. Her dissertation “Challenging Adaptability: Analysing the Governance of Reindeer Husbandry in Sweden” examines how reindeer husbandry in Sweden is currently governed, how governing has changed over time and how the governing system impacts herding practices and the ability of reindeer herders to deal with challenges and disturbances at the local level, such as climate change. A collaborative methodological approach underpins her research and empirical work has been conducted in close collaboration together with Villemina North reindeer herding community in Västerbotten county. Annette Löf is currently based at Vaartoe-CeSam, the Centre for Sami research at Umeå University, doing research related to issues of participation, representation and rights in relation to the ongoing European Capital of Culture taking place in Umeå 2014.
