Feminist scholar Dr Mervi Löfgren (former Autti) will introduce her film The Misses Autti at the Window to the Sex & Capital audience after the opening ceremony of the conference. The film tells about Lyyli (1988-1950) and Hanna (1901-1996) Autti who worked together as photographers in the beginning of the 1900s in Rovaniemi. The Misses Autti were so called new women, leading an independent life in the aftermath of the civil war in Finland. Through their profession they were able to position themselves "in the creative margins". But their lives were not always easy because as independent women they could be treated as spoiled or bad women who had forgotten their basic role as mothers.
