Xie Jie, graduate of Media Education, China
I had finished my Bachelor’s degree in journalism in China and I wanted to go abroad to continue studying as I was not satisfied with my job in China. A friend of mine had studied in Tampere, Finland and she recommended me to go to Finland as well. I was considering London as another option but eventually I chose Finland because studying here is free and the quality of education is high. I also wanted to get to know Finnish culture since I’ve always been interested in different cultures.
"When it comes to Finnish teaching method, I really like the fact that in
the classrooms students are the centre instead of the teacher."
I really enjoy studying in Finland. I don’t have that many classes so I have lots of spare time. I like to stay at the library and deepen my knowledge in education. When it comes to Finnish teaching method, I really like the fact that in the classrooms students are the centre instead of the teacher. In fact, I think that the secret behind the Finnish education system is the well-educated teachers. In the future, I would like to be a teacher in a university as well. As a teacher I would encourage my students to go abroad because it’s the best way for a student to get to know him/herself.
"The nature is so beautiful and the air is clear."
As a student city Rovaniemi is a paradise! The nature is so beautiful and the air is clear. At the weekends I enjoy spending time at the Finnish countryside with my Finnish friend-family. Even though I’ve heard that Finnish people are quiet the ones I’ve got to know are talkative and nice.
