I have worked on my series of art works entitled "Mundus" since 1993. My work centres on creating personal interpretations of existing works of visual art. I draw on the collective memory of humanity for the subjects of my art. I am a cultural nomad and a defender of the old geometrical tradition. My aim is to chart the archetypal picture material and collective memory of humanity from the perspective of a visual artist.
I aim for many-layered content in my work. While my pictures seem very abstract, each one has an antecedent in the history or art. What I mean by this is that each piece can be simultaneously viewed as an abstract as well as and representational image. The image I use as a starting point may be a small fragment of an existing piece of art or a simplified version of the whole piece.
