Panel discussion and book launch event programme and speakers published!

The speakers list and programme of the event "Including the North: Indigenous Languages and Inclusion Policies in Education" is now published. The event will be held in connection with Arctic Science Summit Week in Arkhangelsk, Russia, on 28th May, 2019.

The event is part of official programme of Arctic Science Summit Week. It will be held in the main campus of Northern Arctic Federal University, in Arkhangelsk, on Tuesday 28th May at 14.30-16.00. The meeting room number will be confirmed later.

First part of the programme is the launch of book "Including the North: a Comparative Study of the Policies on Inclusion and Equity in the Circumpolar North". The book is first joing research endeavour of UArctic Thematic Network on Teacher Education, as it was edited and authored by members of the network. The book was part of Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) project, and it was accepted as deliverable in the ministerial meeting of Arctic Council in Rovaniemi in May. The online version of the book is already available.

After the book launch, there will be panel discussion titled "Including the North: Indigenous Languages and Inclusion Policies in Education". The panel focuses on themes like inclusive policies and practices in the North, culturally sensitive education, and identity building. 

Speakers in the panel are:

  • Professor Diane Hirshberg, University of Alaska Anchorage, USA
  • Dr. Marja-Riitta Kotilainen, University of Lapland, Finland
  • Dr. Suvi Lakkala, University of Lapland, Finland
  • Ass. Professor Gregor Maxwell, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Norway

The event is part of the International Year of Indigenous Languages activities of the UArctic Thematic Network and UNESCO/UNITWIN Network.
