In Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi, near the Arctic Circle, winter lasts half a year. Winter is not just one season, there are many seasons within it, such as autumn winter, heart winter, and spring winter. The amount and quality of light and snow live vigorously throughout the winter, creating a new landscape to live and experience every day.
In the past, my artistic work on winter has focused on spring winter. During the winter of 20-21, I decided to do at least one work every month when there is snow. After more than a decade of experience, I am surprised at how the relationship with winter and snow can still deepen so strongly with artistic work. It intertwines the aesthetics of winter, the knowledge of natural phenomena and skill to act with the winter. My hope is that my video would inspire teachers and art educators, as well as welfare and tourism service providers, to see new opportunities to work with winter from the first snow to the last snow of spring.
