Furniture Design Models
INSPIRED BY FINNISH DESIGN CLASSICS
International exchange students together with industrial design and interior and textile design students have analyzed Finnish design classics in this Furniture Design Models course. Students were inspired by classic works like Harri Koskinen´s Block lamp, Tapio Anttila´s Trek-lamp, Laura Väre´s W chair, Markku Salo´s Kayak platter, Lisa Johansson-Pape´s Wooden chandelier, Ilkka Suppanen´s Stick chair and Alvar Aalto´s Aalto stool 60 and Alvar Aalto tea trolley 901. Students created new furniture designs based on their analyzes on the classics. During the 2020 Autumn semester, they have worked on mock-up models and finally they have made scale models of their designs. Various techniques have been tested such as bending and molding plywood, molding plastic, using magnets and sport-welding metal. The materials used were mainly wood, plastic and metal. Miniature scale models 1:6 of these designs were presented in an exhibition space at the Industrial Design Department, 2nd floor, Faculty of Art and Design.
