ULapland offers a wide variety of courses in English even though the main language of teaching is Finnish.  

Course offer

If you are applying to the Faculties of Education, Law or Social Sciences you may choose courses from any of these faculties and the Language Centre. There are only few restrictions, which you can figure out by reading the course descriptions carefully. Usually it concerns prerequisites regarding earlier studies. In Tourism there are several restrictions to students from other field of study. 

The courses of the Faculty of Art and Design are available only to the students of this faculty. As an art and design exchange student you can also choose courses of the other faculties as well as from the Language Centre. 

If you are a BA-level student you are usually allowed to choose studies from MA-level as well.

• Click the blue button "Show timing as academic years" and then choose "Show timing as semesters".
• 1.a = autumn semester; 1.s = spring semester. If both semesters are ticked, the course is offered twice in the academic year.

The study offer is usually published in April/May for the upcoming academic year. The timetables will be available in the beginning of August. If you are planning your studies before the study offer is published - don't worry, just orient with the previous year's study offer. It seldom changes radically. 

• ULapland requires you to choose minimum 25 ECTS credits of studies per semester unless otherwise agreed with your home institution. Usually your home institution requires 30 ECTS credits of studies per semester. 
• Choose max 35 ECTS credits per semester.
• ULapland courses may last from one week to whole semester which means that your timetable may vary week to week.
• ULapland offers both lectured courses and independent study modules i.e. book exams = independent study based on informed and agreed literature in the course description, and completion of assignment.

You cannot choose teaching experience courses unless you are a Teacher Training student.

We ask you to choose one of the modules and select courses for your study plan within it. The modules are designed so that there is no overlapping in timetables. It is however possible to take self-study courses from other modules. 

Completing your Learning Agreement
As part of the application process you need to prepare a learning agreement (LA). LA is needed to make sure that your planned studies are based on the ULapland study offer and that they are accepted by your home university.

Non-Erasmus+ students
Learning Agreement form is available on our webpage application information for students (www.ulapland.fi/exchange section 6).
You can use our or your university’s own LA form.

Erasmus+ students
ULapland endorses Erasmus+ Online Learning Agreement and Erasmus+ Mobile App applications. During the transition period, we accept learning agreements both via OLA or as printed versions. In both cases the student has to upload PDF -version of the LA in her/his application in SoleMOVE, our mobility application tool.  
Online Learning Agreement

• allows the Learning Agreement to be prepared online
• is shared with both the home and host universities and is signed electronically
