The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation is a Finnish non-profit organisation supporting cultural and economic development in Finland. It was established in 1942 by the sea captain, ship owner and industrialist Antti Wihuri and his wife Jenny.
Every semester the foundation awards one artist a grant that enables him or her to work on an artistic production at our Faculty of Art and Design for three months. The artist is invited by the faculty and the arts division of the foundation. Most of the visiting artists hold exhibitions in the faculty galleries or other exhibition spaces in Rovaniemi.
The visiting artists are given the perfect opportunity for undisturbed work and intense concentration in a setting surrounded by northern nature. They also have the chance to get involved in our academic community and the local cultural scene.
Our university has accommodated visiting Wihuri Foundation artists since 1995. Listed below are those who have worked with us so far. By clicking on the links you can view their work depicted in our university's art and science journal Kide and the book Vieraana pohjoisen valossa (in Finnish).
