Demonstrating language proficiency with a language test
IELTS Academic / IELTS Indicator
  • Score of 6.5 or higher

It usually takes at least 13 days for the results of the test to be published after you have taken it. Copies of the original certificate are also accepted. The score will be cross-checked with the database of the organiser of the test. University of Lapland also accepts IELTS Indicator test results for the time being.

TOEFL iBT / TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition
  • Score of 92 or higher

When requesting the TOEFL test centre to forward your results to us, please fill in University of Lapland´s Institution Code 8264 in the Score Report Recipient field. University of Lapland does not use a specific department code, you can select 99: department not listed. This is the institution code for University of Lapland. The testing centre must send the score slip or its electronic equivalent directly to University of Lapland. Test results sent by the applicant will not be accepted. Please note that University of Lapland does not receive the test score until some three weeks after you have received it. University of Lapland also accepts TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test results for the time being.


Pearson Test of English, PTE Academic / PTE Academic Online
  • Score of 62 or higher

Test results for PTE Academic are typically available within five working days following the test session. Once you receive your test score, send it to University of Lapland from your PTE account. Choose Finland as the ‘Country’, ‘University of Lapland’ as the ‘Institution’ and click ‘Search’. Then select the university you want to send your results to and confirm your request. After this, University of Lapland should have access to your test results within 48 hours. Be advised that online language test results will only be accepted from the test organiser.

C1 Advanced
  • Score C

For C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, please address the test results to University of Lapland. An applicant's copy of the test score is acceptable, as your results will be verified through the test organiser. Include your Candidate's ID (3 letters and 6 numbers) and secret number (4 digits). Test scores sent as email attachments will not be accepted.

C2 Proficiency
  • Score Level C1

For C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, please address the test results to University of Lapland. An applicant's copy of the test score is acceptable, as your results will be verified through the test organiser. Include your Candidate's ID (3 letters and 6 numbers) and secret number (4 digits). Test scores sent as email attachments will not be accepted.

National Certificate of Language Proficiency by Finnish National Board of Education
  • Skill level 5 in the following subtests; reading, writing, listening and speaking

    - Upload a copy of the National Certificate of English Language Proficiency by Finnish National Board of Education to the electronic application. University of Lapland will verify the results from the test organiser.
    - No expiry date for test result.
    - Please noticet that this test is only available in Finland. National language proficiency certificates from other countries are not accepted.
Demonstrating language proficiency with other documents
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree in English
  • a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in English in one of the EU or EEA countries, or in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand or the USA.
  •  Document needed: Copy of transcript of records of Bachelor's (or higher) degree in original language from an EU/EEA country, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, the UK or New Zealand indicating that the language of instruction for the degree was English. If the original document is not issued in English, Finnish or Swedish, translation into one of these languages is required.
English as a foreign language as part of a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree
  • English as foreign language as part of a Bachelor's or Master's degree taught in a Nordic country (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).
  • Document needed: Copy of transcript of records of the Bachelor's (or higher) degree from a Nordic university in original language AND copy of your bachelor’s (or higher) degree certificate/diploma from a Nordic institution of higher education.
20 ects exchange studies in English at higher education level
  • Exchange studies at higher education level (at least 20 ECTS) in English in one of the Nordic Countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden), the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
  • Document needed: Officially certified copies of the transcript of records from your exchange studies in the above mentioned countries.
