Registration and teaching periods

Remember to register!

All students of the University of Lapland are required to register as an attending student ("present") or a non-attending student ("absent") in the OILI Service separately for each academic year. Please note that in order to be eligible for signing up for courses, earning credits and receiving a scholarship you are required to be registered as attending. Registration status as attending is also a prerequisite for accessing the university information systems. Your User ID will work only if your registration for the current academic year has been completed.

The registration period for the academic year 2024-2025 is 1 June to 16 September 2024.

The registration period for the spring term 2025 is 1 December 2024 to 16 January 2025.

Registration status while on exchange

Please check in the Peppi system that your registration status is "present" prior to the start of your exchange.

Registration as an attending student

Log into the OILI Service

Pay the Student Union membership fee via your online banking service (if you have a Finnish bank account) or by credit card.

Enrollment information will uppdate to the university student registration system the next day.

If you do not have a Finnish bank account, you may pay the Student Union membership fee by credit card or cash at the Student Union office. If you wish to pay the membership fee using a non-Finnish bank account, please see the bank account details on the Student Union web pages. Please note that you will be required to present proof of payment either by sending a copy or the payment receipt (or an equivalent document showing the transaction) by email at [opinto (at) ulapland.fi] or by presenting the document in person at the Student Services office (wing E, ground floor). After this, your registration status as an attending student will be entered into the student register.

Registration as a non-attending student

If you are registering as non-attending ("absent"), you should do so during the registration period either through the OILI Service or by email at [opinto(at)ulapland.fi]. When your registration status is non-attending, you do not need to pay the Student Union membership fee. You can change your status to attending outside the registration period by contacting the Student Services.

Registering after the deadline

If you do not complete your registration by the deadline, you will lose your right to study. In this case, your study status in Peppi system is changed to "out of register". To have your study right reactivated, you are required to pay a re-enrolment fee of 50 €.

NB. The re-enrolment fee is paid into a different account than the Student Union membership fee.

After having paid the fee, please send or bring the receipt to the Student Services. Please note that the amount has to be paid in total to the university account. Please check with your bank about possible transfer payments that might be deducted from the amount.

Registration for a single term only

If you anticipate graduating in the autumn, you only need to register for the autumn term. In that case, pay the Student Union membership fee only for the autunm. If your studies have been completed by 31 July and you are only requesting your degree certificate (diploma), please get in touch with the Student Services.

If you register as an attending student for the spring term only, please pay the Student Union membership fee for the spring and contact the Student Services, to have your information entered in the register correctly.

The Student Union fee doesn't include the FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service, YTHS in Finnish) health care. The Act on Student Health Services for Students in Higher Education will come into force on 1 January 2021. The healthcare fee for higher education students for now on is paid to Kela. Registration for non-degree studies

If you are not pursuing a degree at the University of Lapland, one-time registration at the beginning of your studies covers the entire duration of your studies.

Non-degree studies are:

• Studies under the Flexible Study Right scheme (JOO)
• The Arctic Studies Program
• Studies completed by international exchange students.

Student union membership fee

Membership of the Student Union and payment of the membership fee are compulsory if you are working towards a lower or higher university degree [§ 46, Universities Act (558/2009)].

• Academic year 59 €, autumn term only 29 €, spring term only 30 €.
• The fee doesn't include the FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service, YTHS in Finnish) health care. The Act on Student Health Services for Students in Higher Education will come into force on 1 January 2021. The healthcare fee for higher education students for now on is paid to Kela. • Other: Wellness Pass (45 €/year), he pass works digitally and is activated in the Kide.app application at the start of the pass services.

Membership for postgraduate students

Membership of the Student Union is optional for postgraduate students. For those wishing to join, the fee is 39 € (autumn term 31 €, spring term 32 €). Postgraduate students are not eligible for the services of the FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service, YTHS in Finnish) or discounted meals at student restaurants that operate under the Kela meal subsidy system. More information about the membership and its perks on the Student Union's website.
