Max Juntunen

Since 1997 I have worked as a lecturer of video expression in the Master's Degree Programme in Audiovisual Media Culture at the Faculty of Art and Design (formerly Unit of Media Science / Department of Media).

I graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1984, majoring in art education. For a few years I worked as an arts teacher at a comprehensive school, high school and adult education centre in Tavastia, before returning to my alma mater in Helsinki for nine years. I worked there as a teacher specialised in film, video, television and media education in the years 1988–1997, until my situation in life made the move to the north and University of Lapland possible.

During my time in the Audiovisual Media Culture programme I have had the amazing opportunity not only to organise theory-centred lectures and contact teaching but also productive studies. In the latter case I have mostly worked as a producer and supervisor of the learning projects.

My own artistic practice has focused on video productions (documentary short films and fiction, recordings and presentation videos), singing in the choir Rovalan kuoro (2009–2015) as well as some graphic design projects. In the years 2005–2007 I also participated in the making of the documentary feature Reaching Father (Isien merkit) as one of its eight directors.
