I live in a place where for half a year the days are shorter than the nights and on the other half the nights shorter than the days or almost non existent. Either way I look at it it's all about LIGHT. I am an artist and photography is my primary means of visual communication. As well I am an arts educator and any and all issues revolving around light are my domain and the domain my students must learn to cope and come to terms with.
Of the nearly 27 years I've lived in Finland nearly 25 of those years have been spent in the north near enough to the arctic circle that in itself seems to have meaning especially to our exchange students who for many have chosen this place out of some mysterious curiosity, maybe a similar curiosity that pulled me to this latitude many long years ago for the first time.
At the University of Lapland, faculty of art and design, I teach photography to all required and to all interested in photography's expressive potentials. We here in DFACS (Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies) try our best to act locally in a universal way and think and act globally locally. This attitude towards art and education has given me in return inspiration for my personal artistic explorations which in turn have inspired how I educate of the field of art.
