University of Helsinki

The University of Helsinki is looking for six doctoral researchers in the DocSoc360° consortium, whose dissertation topics preferably fall within the following research areas:

  • Critical transition phases in childhood and youth. Interest in how forward-looking and future planning could improve the resilience of young people exposed to harmful childhood experiences.
  • Professional work and multiprofessional operating environments in services for children and young people (e.g. schools, daycare centres, child welfare) in challenging times. Interest in how to develop creative professional practices that create hope for young people and how the health and wellbeing of children and young people can be improved both at the group level and in society in general.

Several survey and interview materials are available for the doctoral candidates, which they can use in their doctoral dissertations.
 
The fields of science of the applicants may be education, social work or sociology.

University of Jyväskylä

At the University of Jyväskylä, the six doctoral researchers in the pilot work at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and complete their postgraduate studies in either the subject of social work or social policy. 

The doctoral dissertations in the pilot focus on research on social services, especially on the ageing of the population, services for the elderly and the disabled, and services for working age population, digital social services and the management and knowledge formation of social services. At the University of Jyväskylä, the pilot works in close cooperation with the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care funded by the Research Council of Finland. The dissertations are supervised by professors of social work and social policy and other senior researchers (e.g. professors Teppo Kröger, Heli Valokivi, Sakari Taipale, Kati Närhi, Minna Kivipelto, Johanna Kiili).

University of Lapland

The University of Lapland is looking for six doctoral researchers in the DocSoc360° consortium whose doctoral dissertations focus on social work, welfare rights and wellbeing management. The dissertation studies discuss the following themes and merged interdisciplinary perspectives:

  • social welfare and healthcare structures and the service system
  • social services and wellbeing management, including the development of inclusivity and network cooperation
  • coercive control and persecution as forms of violence against children
  • everyday security and global disasters

A later call for applications describes the scientific background and theme required by each position in more detail. All positions are connected to ongoing research projects, and they have ready-made materials and networks that doctoral researchers may take advantage of.

University of Oulu

The University of Oulu is looking for two doctoral researchers in the DocSoc360° consortium whose dissertations focus on social work, Sámi culture and the Sámi language. The general research themes of the call are:

  • structures, service system and development of Sámi social welfare and healthcare as part of Sámi society
  • training for Sámi social welfare and healthcare professionals
  • developing Sámi cultural competence and Sámi languages in social welfare and healthcare
  • the Sámi as clients of social welfare and healthcare and 
  • special features related to indigenous people and the Sámi sense of community in social work and healthcare

The research will be carried out at the University of Oulu's Giellagas Institute, which is nationally responsible for the highest research and teaching of Sámi culture and the Sámi language in Finland.

Tampere University

Tampere University is looking for six doctoral researchers in the DocSoc360° consortium, whose dissertations must be within the following research areas: 

  • multiprofessional work in social work and healthcare service system from the perspectives of the division of labour and interaction between professions and organisations
  • encountering citizens in need of special support
  • accessibility and effectiveness of services

There are research projects in the following fields at Tampere University, which doctoral candidates will primarily join and use. The applicants' disciplines can be social work, social law, health sciences, psychology, speech therapy or communication.

University of Vaasa

The University of Vaasa is looking for two doctoral students in the DocSoc360° consortium who are interested in the following themes:

  • Encountering vulnerable customers
  • Applying the experiential data of clients who use social services frequently
  • Customer-oriented service integration in wellbeing services counties
  • Effectiveness-based management in social services
  • Applying ecosystem thinking in the development of social services

Doctoral students work in close cooperation with KELA and the Ostrobothnia wellbeing services county.

The University of Eastern Finland is looking for four doctoral researchers in the DocSoc360° consortium. The doctoral researcher positions in social work major in the Department of Social Sciences include research in one of the following areas:
Theme 1: Child protection
Theme 2: Disability research and
Theme 3: Client safety

The research theme for the major in health and social management in the Department of Health and Social Management is:
Theme 4: Social service management and service integration.
