Studia Generalia lecture on 2012 U.S. Presidential Election Results

David McGuire, Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs, from the Embassy of the United States of America in Finland, provides analysis on the 2012 U.S. presidential election results at a Studia Generalia lecture at the University of Lapland on November 19.

Mr McGuire offers insights especially on the influence of media on the election results, as well as on the role of social media in the election campaigns. After the lecture there will be a possibility for questions and information will be provided on the American Resource Center’s services, scholarships and programmes.

David McGuire
David McGuire has been a Public Affairs Officer with the U.S. Department of State since 2000 and is currently the Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki. As such he is the spokesman for the Embassy and the primary media advisor to Ambassador Bruce Oreck.

Before coming to Finland, David served three years as Press Attaché in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he was the mission’s primary writer of speeches, press guidance, and talking points, and worked with journalists from the Federation and Republika Srpska to help bridge the deep, post-conflict divides that remain in the country. He has also served as Cultural Affairs Officer in Managua, Nicaragua; Consular Officer in Madrid, Spain; and in various capacities in Washington D.C. Before joining State he worked in educational reform and development at Brown University.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College and a MA from the University of Tennessee.
