The exhibition is the third and final artistic project of the artistic production included in Bettina Schülke’s doctoral dissertation which she is preparing at the Faculty of Art and Design.

The multidisciplinary and multisensory exhibition aims to explore how the new digital and interactive media have an essential impact on the so-called old media. The exhibits are produced with different artistic techniques situated in the field between fine art, new media and textile art.

“For millennia our perception of space was dominated by a body-focused spatial experience. Today, the physical space coexists with the electronic space, yet the sensual feeling of space vanishes in the virtual world. When the boundaries of our physical space are blurring and extending towards a virtual space, the processes connected with spatial experience might drastically change in the near future. That’s why it is essential to develop new concepts of space”, notes Bettina Schülke.

The exhibition shows drawings, photography, moving images, installations and textile works which aim to explore the interplay between artworks, the space and the viewer. At the same time, it discusses how our cognitive understanding of virtual spatial concepts will transform, and how this process will influence our understanding of space, the production of art, and old and new media.
