The award was granted by the Finnish Association of Science Editors and Journalists for pioneering and extensive work both nationally and internationally.
Science communications unit of the Arctic Centre is one of the recipients of the Science Communications Awards granted annually by Finnish Association of Science Editors and Journalists.
The Finnish Association of Science Editors and Journalists (FASEJ) is a national organization of professionals involved in science communications. The purpose of the organization is to promote science communication activities, as well as the exchange of science information not only within the scientific community, but also in society.
The association, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, awarded two Science Journalist of the Year awards. They went to Tiina Raevaara and Melissa Heikkilä. In addition to the Arctic Centre, the Science Communications Award was granted to forensic psychologist Julia Korkman.
Science Journalist of the Year award is 5000 € and Science Communications Award 2000 €.
According to Markku Heikkilä, Head of Science Communications at the Arctic Centre, the award is a great honour and addresses the uniqueness and usefulness of the combination of research, science communication and exhibition activities in one place.
– This is a wonderful recognition for the work that we do together with researchers and experts at the Arctic Centre, Heikkilä says.
