Arctic Centre studies political and economic development in the Barents region

Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland has received two-year grant from Nordforsk to build a Nordic research network. The network will focus on political and economic development in the Barents region from the perspective of sustainable development.
The network is led by research professor Monica Tennberg and its members come from universities in Lapland, Tromso, Umeå, Luleå and Eastern Finland. In addition, the network has Russian participants from Kola Science Centre and Independent Social Research Centre in St. Petersburg. The network is especially meant for doctoral students.
The research network will organise three workshops and an open conference and produce a joint publication. The first workshop will be organized in Rovaniemi, Finland, 14.-15.12.2010.
