The Arctic Yearbook 2016 was released at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Ottawa. This year, the theme of the book focuses on the theme of “The Arctic Council: 20 Years of Cooperation and Policy-Shaping”. The editor in chief of the yearbook is Professor Lassi Heininen from the University of Lapland.

The Arctic Yearbook 2016 contains 14 scientific articles as well as 21 commentaries and thirteen short articles dealing with Arctic Council.
“The Arctic Yearbook 2016 is perhaps the most substantial evaluation of the Arctic Council ever published,” notes Professor Heininen.
Yearbook focuses on the theme of “The Arctic Council: 20 Years of Cooperation and Policy-Shaping” as an acknowledgement of the central role the Council has played in regional governance and stability-building during the past two decades. Arctic Yearbook 2016 is perhaps the most substantial evaluation of the Arctic Council ever published.
The Arctic Yearbook seeks to be the preeminent repository of critical analysis on the Arctic region, with a mandate to inform observers about the state of Arctic politics, governance and security. It is an international and interdisciplinary double-blind peer-reviewed publication, published online at [www.arcticyearbook.com] to ensure wide distribution and accessibility to a variety of stakeholders and observers. The Arctic Yearbook is open access. Readers may download, distribute, photocopy, cite or excerpt this Arctic Yearbook material provided it is properly and fully credited and not used for commercial purposes.
Since its first publication in 2012, the Arctic Yearbook has contained peer-reviewed scientific articles and political commentaries. It is published by the joint thematic network of geopolitics and security of the Northern Research Forum and the University of the Arctic.
The members of the international editorial board are Lawson Brigham (United States), Alyson Bailes (United Kingdom), Gail Fondahl (Canada), President of the Republic of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, former Ambassador Hannu Halinen (Finland), Dr. Steven E. Miller (United States), and Director Alexander Pelyasov (Russia). The editor-in-chief is Professor Lassi Heininen from the University of Lapland and the managing editors are Heather Exner-Pirot from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) and Joël Plouffe from the National School of Public Administration (ENAP) (Canada).
