Café Lingua meetings offer an excellent opportunity for creating multilingual and multicultural evenings right in the centre of Rovaniemi. The casual atmosphere of Café Lingua allows people to chit chat in German, Russian or Spanish while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

This autumn, Café Lingua meetings will be organized as follows:

• Spanish every other Monday: 24 October, 7 November and 21 November
• German every other Tuesday: 25 October, 8 November and 22 November
• Russian, every other Tuesday: 18 October, 1 November, 15 November and 29 November

All Café Lingua meetings take place at 17–18 at Chocolate Café Valentina (address: Rovakatu 21, Rovaniemi).

All interested in languages and cultures – such as Finnish and international students, locals, tourists and tourism operators – are warmly welcome to join.

Background
University of Lapland started Café Lingua meetings specified in certain languages in November 2010. Last spring, meetings were arranged regularly in German and Russian. In previous years, language cafés were arranged in Rovaniemi in such a way that speakers of different languages gathered to talk and spend time together in the same evening. The new Café Lingua meetings give those interested in languages and culture a better possibility to go into one language at a time. In general, the activity aims at supporting the local community’s ability to cross-cultural encounters.
