E-LOCAL enables online language studying
13.11.2014
E-LOCAL – Electronically Learning Other Cultures and Languages – is a collection of online language courses in six languages. The selection includes Dutch, Finnish, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, and Portuguese. The language courses contain a significant amount of culture-related information as well.
E-LOCAL online courses are for beginners; therefore, the CEFR level is A1. The support language for learning is English.
Because
E-LOCAL was produced with support from the European Commission, it is a
non-profit source of learning material. The Language Centre at the
University of Lapland offers E-LOCAL courses in Finland, in
collaboration with the Lapland University Consortium (LUC). LUC students
and staff are already benefiting from E-LOCAL by studying languages
online and learning about cultures. Some language teachers even use
E-LOCAL as teaching material.
People from outside the University
of Lapland and LUC can also access the E-LOCAL language courses.
Everyone can easily create their own username and password at the
learning platform.
At the moment, the E-LOCAL courses do not
entitle the student to any study credits or certificates. However,
E-LOCAL is freely accessible for everyone interested in languages and
cultures. Teachers are also allowed to use E-LOCAL as teaching material.
The E-LOCAL project was awarded the European Language Label in 2012.
