First issue of the new Barents science journal published

7.4.2014

The first issue of a new academic journal "Barents Studies: Peoples, Economies and Politics" is published. The new journal consists of multidisciplinary peer-reviewed articles, book reviews and presentations of young scholars and their Barents related research. The journal is published in printed as well as in electronic form and it is free of charge for all interested readers.

Editor-in-chief for the first issue of the journal is Research Professor Monica Tennberg from Arctic Centre, University of Lapland. The journal has circulating editorship and the next issues are under the responsibility of the Luzin Institute for Economic Studies of the Kola Science Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Barents Institute at the University of Tromsø from Norway. This year there will be altogether four issues published – three of them academic and one popularized supplement issue.

"The journal wants to offer its readers new research based information about the Barents region, and find topics that are interesting and informative for both people in the region and beyond", says Research Professor Monica Tennberg.

New journal has been established in a cooperation project by the three research institutions and it is funded by the EU Kolarctic ENPI CBC Programme which promotes cross-border cooperation between the countries in the North Calotte and northwest Russia.
