Funding for cooperation in gender research

The Nordic Information on Gender NIKK has allocated a grant of DKK 150,000 to the Unit of Gender Studies at the Faculty of Education for a one year project to build the network focusing on northern livelihood changes from gender perspective.

The project entitled “A gender based approach to livelihood change in the Nordic Arctic” will start in February at the Unit of Gender Studies led by Professor Päivi Naskali. The project aims to create a research network for gender and equality studies, as well as to strengthen northern research co-operation on the aforesaid fields. The research network will focus especially on the gendered effects of the changes in northern livelihoods.

The project partners include the University of Lapland, the University of Umeå (Sweden), the University of Tromso (Norway), and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University NArFU (Russia). Professor Päivi Naskali, Senior Lecturer Seija Keskitalo-Foley and Researcher Shahnaj Begum (project coordinator) will take part to the project from the University of Lapland.
