Historic visit of President of India in Arctic Centre

The President of India visited the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland on Thursday 16th October.

 With his delegation he toured the exhibitions of the Arctic Centre and of the Regional Museum of Lapland and watched a Northern Lights multivision show. He also listened to the presentations of Professor Mauri Ylä-Kotola, the rector of the University of Lapland, and of Mr. Markku Heikkilä, the Head of Science Communications at the Arctic Centre.

The visit marked the first time in history when an Indian president crossed the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi marked the last step on his state visit tour to Oslo, Norway and Helsinki, Finland.
