Interactive and Audiovisual Textile Installation
8.2.2011
Huurre Installation is situated in the Revontuli shopping mall in Rovaniemi on 14-26.2.2011. The installation is part of Rovaniemi Design Week 2011 event.
The installation consists of interactive textile works, which reflect
trees in the winter forest. Works are made by using different techniques
like knitting, felting, painting and printing. It has been tried to
make use of different recycled textile materials in the process. A
special feature in this work is combining textile and technology. Using
technology has made possible to bring some light, sound and motion to
the work, in which these elements function interactively.
The installation offers a piece of the forest for today’s people. It has
been said that the nature is very important for Finnish people, but
they don’t spend their time very much outdoors in these days. The wintry
trees in the shopping centre are easy to approach and they remind us of
the forests’ values and, how the forest can awaken and influence our
all senses. One starting point for the installation is the theme of
Rovaniemi Design Week 2011, which are the Arctic Design and the
turquoise colour code.
The installation has been designed and carried out by Tilan ilme -master
program’s students at the University of Lapland: Reetta Eskola, Hilppa
Isola, Aija Koivisto, Mari Peräntie and Paula Tikkanen. Counsellor
teachers in this project have been Bettina Schulke, an Austrian textile-
and media artist and Matti Niinimäki, a media artist.
