International exchange students increasingly interested in studying in Finnish Lapland

21.6.2011

According to the recent statistics of CIMO, the Centre for International Mobily in Finland, the University of Lapland has again increased its popularity among international exchange students.

In 2010 the University of Lapland received the most international exchange students in Finland when the amount of the exchange students is proportioned to the number of first year students.

Altogether 221 exchange students stayed and did their studies for more than three months at the University of Lapland last year, while there were 637 first year students starting their studies. That is the highest ratio among the universities in Finland.

“According to the feedback from our exchange students, the most interesting features of the University are our international Arctic and Northern profile and curricula”, notes Director of International Relations Outi Snellman.

“In addition, we have received a lot of positive feedback from our well-functioning international student services, such as tutoring, orientation programme, and the Finnish friend programme. Our University is considered small with an international campus of high quality. This is the message our international exchange students bring back to their home universities”, comments Jaana Severidt, the Head of International Student Services.

This autumn we expect again 130 new international exchange students and 58 new international degree students who start their studies with the orientation programme from 1st of September onwards.
