Interactive visualization of cross-regional issues in the northern regions of Sweden, Norway and Finland is the topic of a new project lead by the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland. The main goal in LiveNord project is to communicate cross-border data. The project targets both the general public and policy makers. The goal will be achieved through the development of a new map based visualization tool based on live data feed and static data. The visualized data will be selected according to indicators reflecting the four dimensions of territorial sustainability: economic, social, environmental and cultural sustainability.
The project will be conducted as a public-private partnership. Project partners are Tekniken Hus and Agency9 from Luleå, and Research Institute Norut and Nordnorsk Vitensenter from Tromsø.
The outcome of the project will be three science exhibition stations incorporating the visualization tool. These exhibition elements will be hosted in the permanent science exhibitions of project partners in Rovaniemi, Luleå and Tromsø. In addition, a cross-regional planning tool will be developed to facilitate integrated cross-regional planning. Both tools will include a public participation tool to enable the acquisition of crowdsourced data, which has potential of engaging people in issues affecting their daily life in the region.
The project is starting now and will last until mid-2018. The project is funded by the Interreg Nord EU-program and co-financed by the partners, Lapin liitto, Länsstyrelsen i Norrbottens län and Troms fylkeskommune. Altogether the project budget is 1,15 mil. euros.
