New Board appointed for the University of Lapland

In its meeting on 27 November the University Collegium has appointed the new Board of the University of Lapland for the term 1 January 2015 – 31 December 2017.

The board of the University of Lapland has 11 members: five of them are external and six from within the university.

The external members are Emeritus Professor Raimo Väyrynen; Director General of the National Institute for Health and Welfare Marja Vaarama; Director of the Sámi Museum Siida Tarmo Jomppanen; Distribution Manager of Ottobre Oy, LLD Matti Hepola; and Partner at the Rukakeskus Consortium Miia Porkkala.

The professors of the University of Lapland are represented in the board by Professor of Procedural Law Tuula Linna from the Faculty of Law and Professor of Applied Art and Design Satu Miettinen from the Faculty of Art and Design.

The researchers, teachers, and other personnel of the university are represented by University Lecturer in Gender Studies Kirsti Lempiäinen from the Faculty of Education and Research Services Manager Satu Pesola from the Central Administration.

Students are represented by law student Mikko Lindroos from the Faculty of Law and student of class teacher education Ville Luotola from the Faculty of Education. The student members are appointed for a one-year term.

There are six new members in the Board and women are in the majority. The Board selects the chair and vice-chair from among the members in its first meeting.

The members representing the university personnel were elected through an internal election at the beginning of November. The Board's student members were chosen by the Student Union of the University of Lapland and the external members by the University Collegium.
