– We will challenge our audience to think where Arcticness is present. The Arctic is so close to our everyday life in Finland that we do not necessarily even notice what it is, says Chief Executive Producer Nicolas Gunslay of the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland.

The Arctic Expo 2017 exhibition offers an overview of Finland’s Arcticity, of how Finland and the Finns have adapted to the Arctic conditions and how this has developed into a strong Arctic know-how. Visitors will get an introduction to the history behind Finland’s Arctic know-how, a new interest for the Arctic and its resources, everyday technology and products related to snow and ice and the future of Finnish Arctic technology. In addition, the exhibition presents Finnish icebreaker technology and expertise, technology and products related to oil spill recovery, forestry and tourism.

The exhibition is based on pictures, keywords and scale models. Arctic Expo 2017 is part of the Finland 100 celebration and it will open during the Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference, which is the main Arctic event during Finland’s centenary. The exhibition in also a part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Arktikum House and open to the public until January 28, 2018. After that it will circulate either physically or as a multimedia presentation e.g. in Finnish embassies.
