The aim of the project is to initiate co-operation between education and research institutions in the field of societal security. In order to build strengthened networks within the discipline, the project primarily plans to organize two workshops – one being held in St Petersburg on 28 April 2017 and the other one in Tromsø in November, 2017. In addition, project participants will write a number of papers and articles in different combinations, and make further cooperation plans. Duration of the project is 1.1.–31.12.2017.

The project is led by UiT the Arctic University of Norway. In addition to NIEM / Arctic Centre, other project partners are: University of Lund, Aalborg University, University of Iceland, St. Petersburg State University and Murmansk Arctic State University. The NIEM team will be led by Associate Professor Kamrul Hossain, where other team members are: Post-doc Bamidele Raheem and Researcher Anna Petrétei.

Nordic Council of Ministers decided to fund 13 out of 73 grant applications under the scheme “New form of cooperation between the Nordic Region and Northwest Russia”. The program builds on the council of ministers’ efforts to develop networks and exchange experiences between the two regions. The chosen projects will share funding of DKK 6 million, with each project awarded between DKK 300,000 and DKK 500,000.
