University of Lapland students at the Master’s and PhD levels now have the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular online module, run by the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam.
The module is called REPAIR, which stands for ‘Re-focusing the European Green Deal on the protection of the environment, security and Indigenous Peoples’ rights in the Arctic’. Students from the University of Lapland will join students from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam in this online module.
Studies include topics such as introduction to Arctic development, territorial conflicts, natural resource politics, contemporary colonialism, Green deal, environmental protection, Indigenous rights, and environmental governance.
The module is intended for students from a variety disciplines, ranging from political and social sciences and law to earth sciences and environmental resource management.
The module kicks off with an opening event on 25th November 2022. The lectures of the module will take place in topic-based sessions every 2-3 weeks, starting from December 2022 with a tentative end date 9th June 2023. Upon concluding the module, the students will receive a certificate from the Faculty of Social Sciences, VU Amsterdam, demonstrating that they have taken the module as an extracurricular activity (upon regular attendance). There are no exams, and no graded assignments. As an optional assignment, the students can write a policy paper. The best papers will be published as a policy outlook paper on the webpage of REPAIR.
The module is taught by researchers in politics and law from VU Amsterdam and by researchers from the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland.
Students can self-register to this Module by scanning the QR code below. Upon registration, students will be given guest accounts to VU Amsterdam’s online learning environment, Canvas. Students can register at any time during the module, but preferably by the opening event on 25th November 2022.
