Glen Coutts.
Glen Coutts, professor of applied visual arts education, has been re-elected as president of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) for a two-year term of 2023–2025. Professor Coutts has served as president of InSEA for two previous terms in 2019–2023.
Part-time professor of applied visual arts education Glen Coutts from
the Faculty of Art and Design has been re-elected as president of the
International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) for a two-year
term of 2023–2025. As president he has responsibility for leading an
international team of the society. The president of InSEA is elected by
the entire membership of the society. President may serve a maximum of
three two-year terms. Professor Coutts has served as president of InSEA
for two previous terms in 2019–2023.
Professor Coutts has had a
long-term relationship with the University of Lapland stretching almost
20 years. Since 2013, he has been working as a part-time professor in
the Faculty of Art and Design. Earlier, he has worked at the University
of Strathclyde in Glasgow and as a teacher of art and design in high
schools throughout Scotland and community contexts. He is an
artist-educator with wide interests including community-based and
place-based education. He was principal editor of the International
Journal of Education through Art for six years and is co-editor of the
Relate North series of books with professor Timo Jokela. In addition, he
is leader of the group for arctic arts and visual culture education in
the Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD) thematic network of the
University of the Arctic.
The International Society for
Education through Art is the largest worldwide organisation for
education through visual arts. The society has members in more than 80
countries and it is a non-governmental organisation partner of UNESCO.
It advises national and international bodies on policy in art education.
Next year the society will be 70 years old and there will be many
events to mark that milestone including publications exhibitions and
congresses.
